RECENT ACTIONLEGISLATIVE BILL

This bill was written after finding that digital forgeries, or deepfakes, can be easily made by anyone. Victims of digital forgeries can be destabilized and experience anxiety and depression. This can cause victims to withdraw from online and public spaces.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022, would be amended to include intimate digital forgeries that falsely represent an identifiable individual who did not consent to such content. Victims may be entitled to up to $250,000. The statute of limitations on this crime are 10 years the date of discovery or from the day the victim turns 18.
